Marks. Textures. Light. Movement. Layers of value pushed, scraped, and dabbed over initial blocked-in hues. Shapes created with flat metal tools define pieces of the whole. Your eye completes the image. As a follow-up to my summer series of BookMarks paintings portraying timeworn books, I continue my painting journey of creating canvases that journey between abstraction and realism, this time depicting vintage travel cases in a collection titled, The Get-Away Series, Art That Moves. Dramatic, high contrast lighting produces a mood that carries you back to the dawn of the glory days of travel and adventure, while the surface textures create adventure of their own moving the viewer’s eye to explore the canvas surfaces. Each painting in the series represents a length of stay for a get-away dictated by the luggage type and canvas size. They are all packed and ready to go! Scheduled to arrive at Reflections Gallery September 17th-November 12th 2019. Don’t delay stopping by before they “move on”.
Reflections Gallery is located at 1635 Rossville Avenue in Chattanooga, Tennessee 37408 (off Main Street in the Southside Area of Downtown, behind The Church on Main). Their hours of operations are Monday-Friday 10-6pm. 423-892-3072
Below are details(zoomed in photos) of the three paintings in the Get-Away Series. Seeing them in person is the best way to experience the textures created by the paint layers.
