Marks. Textures. Light. Movement. Layers of value pushed, scraped, and dabbed over initial blocked-in hues. Shapes created with flat metal tools define pieces of the whole. Your eye completes the image. As a follow-up to my summer series of BookMarks paintings portraying timeworn books, I continue my painting journey of creating canvases that journey between abstraction and realism, this time depicting vintage travel cases in a collection titled, The Get-Away Series, Art That Moves. Dramatic, high contrast lighting produces a mood that carries you back to the dawn of the glory days of travel and adventure, while the surface textures create adventure of their own moving the viewer’s eye to explore the canvas surfaces. Each painting in the series represents a length of stay for a get-away dictated by the luggage type and canvas size. They are all packed and ready to go! Now arrived at the Museum Gift Gallery, Cleveland TN. Don’t delay stopping by before they “move on”.
The Museum Gift Gallery is located inside the Museum Center 5Points in Cleveland, Tennessee-a history museum for the region. The Gallery Gift hosts original fine artwork from regional artists. If you are interested in purchasing any of the works I have represented through the gift gallery, please contact curator, Dale Armstrong, at 423-339-5745; email@example.com
Below are details(zoomed in photos) of the three paintings in the Get-Away Series. Seeing them in person is the best way to experience the textures created by the paint layers.
